Battlefield 2042 To Have Cross-Play

It has been revealed that Battlefield 2042 will include Cross-Platform and Cross-Progression Play.

Electronic Arts and DICE has announced that the upcoming First Person Shooter will feature cross-platform play between PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

Dice has confirmed that PC and console gamers can choose whether or not to play against one another, answering worries regarding skill discrepancies between mouse and keyboard and gamepad players.

The company will test the cross-play functionality during Battlefield 2042’s technical play test. The test was meant to go live this month but has since been moved up to “Later this summer” according to DICE.

They’ll also be working on cross-progression and cross-commerce features for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms.

In their statement, they said: “Your unlocked progress and purchases in your PlayStation copy of the game will carry over onto the Xbox or PC version, and vice versa.”

Separately from other platforms, PS4 and Xbox One console users can also play together. This makes sense, given that last-gen platforms only support 64 players instead of 128.

Since our previous article unveiling Battlefield 2042, the developers have sat down and provided further information for fans, which you can find here.

This more detailed information includes:

The game itself will be similar to its predecessors in the way that it Is a Multiplayer focused FPS. As we mentioned before the game will come with seven maps: “Orbital”, “Hourglass”, “Kaleidoscope”, “Manifest”, “Discarded”, “Breakaway”, and “Revival”. These maps will show locations affected by severe weather, such as sandstorms and active tornadoes.

The main story revolves around decades of climate change devastation (including the dissolution of the European Union and consequent climate refugees known as “No-Pats”) that will reach a pinnacle in 2040, when a Kessler syndrome event occurs, causing 70% of orbiting satellites to crash to Earth. As a result of the global blackout, tensions between the US and Russia are at an all-time high, with war breaking out by 2042.

Battlefield 2042 will be launched on October 22nd, and as the release date approaches, we are learning more and more about the gameplay, mechanics, and other parts of this interesting game.
