Ubisoft Announces Tom Clancy’s XDefiant
XDefiant is a new entertaining and colorful free-to-play FPS from the Tom Clancy universe.
Official Announcement Trailer for XDefiant:
The news was announced yesterday that game developer Ubisoft (San Franciso) is hard at work creating the new free-to-play FPS that will be dubbed XDefiant. The game is set in the Tom Clancy universe and is described as:
“fast-Paced Firefights meets Punk Rock moshpit”.
The developers go on to say that the game is” a free-to-play, high octane shooter combining realistic gunplay with personalized classes”.
The game will have realistic gunplay with personalized classes called “factions”. There are four factions including, Outcasts, Echelon, Cleaners, and Wolves, and these are inspired by three other Tom Clancy games namely: The Splinter Cell, The Division, and the Ghost Recon series. Of these four factions, one will be able to heal allies, another will be able to deploy a shield and yet another will have a flamethrower at their disposal.
Producer Mark Rubin explains in the announcement trailer that first and foremost this game will be a shooter and as such, they have put a lot into the “ever-growing arsenal” of weapons.
Players will have cooldown-based abilities, such as ultras, just like in Overwatch and other Call of Duty games. You will also be able to add additional attachments to your weapons to make them more unique. Two teams of six will compete against each other in each match.
Ubisoft will be launching an early gameplay test for XDefiant on the 5th of August which you can register for here.
XDefiant is still in early development and the developers have said that “your feedback is essential to make the game great”, and that they are currently working on a “diverse cast” with brand new characters to keep the game interesting. Ubisoft has added that they are “committed to creating a welcoming game based on fair play and transparency.”
This new Bright and vibrant action packed game will be available on Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and will have streaming versions for Amazon Luna and Google Stadia. They have also promised cross-platform play from the outset which is exciting news for fans.
Tom Clancy’s XDefiant was previously dubbed Battlecat in June this year. We like the new name a lot better, and we really enjoy that the XD in XDefiant makes a laughing emoji, which contributes to the game’s lighthearted nature.
As the game is still in early development there is no word yet of a release date but fear not as we will keep you up to date on all things XDefiant.
