Splatoon 3 Announced
The long-awaited sequel is coming in 2022
The news was announced in Nintendo’s Direct Live Stream this week.
If you are unfamiliar with the franchise, Splatoon is a third-person shooter featuring inklings and octolings (based on squids and octopuses). The characters transform between humanoid and cephalopod forms and engage in turf wars using a variety of weapons that shoot coloured ink.
The trailer shows us some cool customization options and even our little fishy buddy gets to have a makeover.
The scene is post-apocalyptic-like and depicts our little octo pal commuting from the wasteland to a big city to do battle and cause inky-carnage.
Not much more than that was revealed though unfortunately, leaving a lot to the imagination.
In the YouTube trailer, Nintendo had this to say:
“Splatoon 3 arrives on Nintendo Switch in 2022! In the wake of chaos, enter the sun scorched Splatlands and the new city, Splatsville, inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. New weapons, moves, and more await, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates in the future.”
On the Nintendo site itself, they describe Splatoon 3 by saying:
“Enter the Splatlands, a sun-scorched desert inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. S
platsville, the city of chaos, is the adrenaline-fueled heart of this dusty wasteland.Even in this desolate environment, Turf War* reigns supreme, and battles rage in new stages located in the surrounding wilds.
Dynamic new moves help these fighters dodge attacks and cover more ground, along with a new bow-shaped weapon to sling ink. Stay tuned for more information to be revealed, as the Splatoon 3 game is scheduled to release for the Nintendo Switch™ system in 2022. “
They added some upcoming features for the game as well:
- Ink it up with a new entry in the Splatoon series
- Discover the Splatlands, a new sun-soaked region with trendsetting inhabitants
- Experiment with new styles for Inklings and Octolings
- 4v4 Turf Wars* are back, with new stages, new maneuvers, and new weapons
Unfortunately, Splatoon 3 will only grace our screens next year sometime with no actual release date all we can do is wait.
Splatoon 2 had the pesky issue of requiring multiple switches for local multiplayer, with no single-TV split-screen mode like Mario Kart. Hopefully, this will change with this new installment.
That is all the information we have on the game for now but we will keep you up to date with the latest so stay tuned.
